As a first year Molecular and Cell Biology major at UC San Diego, I have experienced both the research-focused and patient oriented aspects of biology. I have been working as a laboratory technician for 1.5 years under Tessa Popay, PhD and Jesse Dixon, MD, PhD at the Salk Institute of Biological Studies, where I study how alterations of the genome lead to various cancer-causing mutations. Furthermore, as a premed student, I have a deep passion for humanitarian patient care, having served as an intern for seven months at Palomar Medical Center. I am therefore looking to be exposed to the industry side of biology, more specifically clinical and translational science.
